Hi everyone,

This forum is full of helpful information! I just want to make sure I'm getting everything right as it pertains to my specific situation.
I am a US citizen who has been in Canada with my (Canadian) fiance for about a month. He has a green card and we lived and worked together in the States for 4 years, so we are definitely common law. He took a job in Calgary and I am planning on applying for permanent residency based on our common law status.
I managed to find an employer who has offered me a job and obtained a positive LMO for me. I'm planning on driving down to the border (Coutts/Sweetgrass) to flagpole and get my work permit issued at POE, but I want to make absolutely sure that I have all my paperwork in order before I make the 3 hour drive.

I have:
  • The Positive LMO
  • My employment contract/job offer
  • The job description
  • My resume showing my work experience/ability to do the job
  • Completed and validated form IMM 1295
  • The document checklist
  • My US passport
  • $150 (well, that's not all I have, haha. I just know I need it for the work permit.)

I'm guessing I don't need to fill out the application for a TRV since I'm from the States... but do I need the 2 immigration photos? Do I need proof of available funds? I think I can skip the Statutory Declaration of Common-law Union (IMM 5409) since my fiance is Canadian, and I'm not using a representative so I should also be fine without Use of a Representative (IMM 5476).

And do I need to fill out the Family Information (IMM 5645) form? I guess that's the one I'm most unsure about.

Also, any advice for me? Anything I'm missing here? Thank you in advance!!
