Hi everyone,

I've been browing this board and have found a lot of helpful information, but I want to make sure I get it right. I'm an American, and I recently moved to Canada with my (Canadian) fiance. We'd been living together and working in the states (he has a green card) for the last 4 years, and now he's just started a job in Calgary, and I came along. Technically I'm a visitor, but we're starting the process of applying for common-law Permanent Residence.

I really want to work, instead of just sitting around 6 months and waiting for the initial approval of my PR application. Here in Calgary there's so many jobs, and I have all kinds of hospitality experience, so under normal circumstances I would have no problem getting hired as a housekeeper or to work at Tim Horton's etc. I've been reading up on the LMO, and I applied to a couple of jobs I found that claim to have "open LMOs."

I guess my question is, if I were to get hired, what's the next step? Can I use the LMO to apply for a work permit here in Calgary somewhere, or do I have to go to the border? What documents do I need to get the actual work permit? And what is flagpoling? I don't know if it applies to me but I keep seeing it pop up.

Any help or advice will be GREATLY appreciated- between applying for PR and trying to get this work permit I think I'm going to go crazy!
