I've been reading conflicting information about this.

Some say you can ONLY stay for as long as 6 months on a visitor visa, have to go back to the US for a FULL 6 MONTHS before you can come back for another 6 months.

Other say you can stay for a full 6 months, go back to the US for a few weeks and come back for another FULL 6 MONTHS

What is the correct answer as me & my boyfriend would like to be together as much as possible, he does not have much money (rather not at all, is a waiter and can barely make the rent) but I can support him while he's here, I'm not rich but pay low rent & I have enough for us both to be comfortable, we dont need a lot...

=======

Also, How much money does he needs to show he has in his account to be let in for 6 months ??
If I say I'll take care of him is it okay if he doesnt have much or any ?

=======
Also- can he Apply for a work permit when entering even if we havent lived together for a year / I'm not sponsoring him (he would just be a visitor) and then could he apply for ANY JOB or would he need a "LMIA" (which he wouldnt get because he is not a skilled or super educated person) ?

Here's how it works:

How long ANYONE can stay as a visitor in Canada is determine by the immigration officer they speak to at the border.

If that person wishes to stay in Canada longer, they should apply to extend their visit before their current visit ends. This is done within Canada.

If a person chooses to exit Canada and then re-enter to visit again, it's once again up to the immigration officer if and how long they are allowed back into Canada. Generally it's much safer to apply for an extension from within Canada rather than trying a border run.

If he's coming for 6 months it would be a good idea to be able to show $10K if asked.

No - he cannot apply for a work permit. Visitors do not qualify for work permits - visitors come to Canada to visit, not work. To apply for a work permit he needs a full time job offer an an approved LMIA.
