Hi Forum members,

I have below queries :

1. Is it possible for an individual to apply for and obtain Work permit from outside Canada if he has a job offer from Canadian employer or only the employer is authorized to file for the work permit?

2. If the answer to question 1 is yes, then what is the fee involved and the process for the same? (it would be great if a link can be shared so that I can read through in detail)

3. What is time involved in processing of a work permit request once a complete application has been submitted?

Please share your inputs.

Regards,

VSG

1. The individual is the one who should apply for the work permit (not the employer). However having a job offer isn't enough. You also need to have an approved LMIA from the employer.
2.
Fees: http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/fees/fees.asp
Process: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who.asp

Hi Scylla,

Thank you for your prompt inputs. So in my case, it would be an intra-company transfer but to a different work profile than my current job. Does this case requires LMIA approval? Also, my employer is not ready to sponsor my visa and wants me to bear cost for the same which I am ready to do. I just want to know if this is possible?

Thanks in advance.

You can go through this and check if you need one...but usually intra transferees doesn't require one..
