Urgent! Work Permit Expire this Sunday! Question about Extension!

Hello Everyone,

My Post-Graduate work permit is about to expire on Apr 10th, this Sunday. Still waiting for ON PNP nomination.
I would like to submit a paper application tomorrow to extend my work permit. But my immigration lawyer suggest that it is too late. My application will be accepted if CIC officer receive my application before Apr 10th. Since Apr 10th is a Sunday, CIC officer will not receive my application until Monday.

I have checked CIC website and they only mentioned "You must submit your application before your current permit expires" Does anyone have similar experience? Submit= Sent or Receive?? Thank you everyone so much for your effort!!

FYI: My employer have not submitted LIMA application to ESDC. So I am not able to submit my work permit application online.

i am not a professional to answer this querry but if your PGWP states that you are eligible for extension or something like that, go to us/canada border today (i hope they dont close border on weekends) and do flagpolling, describe your situation to the border officer and ask for extension. if pgwp is not extendible then i am not sure if you can do flagpolling at the border for BOWP. BOWP= bridge open work permit used when you are waiting for pnp.

hopefuly other members would help you out as well. again i am also waiting for my permit so thats all i learnt so far from experiences of others.

It's a huge mistake let a WP expires without take action.

As Abdul said if your PGWP was issued with less time due to a early passport expiring date and you have a new passport, grab all documents and go to the border, but be aware if something goes wrong you'll be in difficulties to enter Canada.

If your PGWP was issued for the whole possible time, it's nothing to do to extend it.

Anyways you should try to send a ONLINE extension application today, right now, in order to try to get Implied status for a while, even knowing application could be rejected.

Under Implied Status you can still working and living legally in Canada, but is a short term trick.

You should apply TODAY as well ONLINE for change status to visitor, in order to stay legally.


After tomorrow you can only apply for Status Restoration, most likely to visitor (except PGWP issued for less time due to passport issues). Status Restoration can be rejected so it's the last shot (almost).


So apply online inmediately

Otherwise, you have to stop working tomorrow and you should apply for Status Restoration next week.

If status restoration is not granted you have to leave Canada in order to avoid issues with PR.

In fact, be out of status tomorrow could impact your PR.
