Hello all!

I hope you are having a wonderful Saturday evening! I am currently in Canada on my sixth year, on a work permit which expires on March 6, 2015.
I have been given a new job offer from an employer who has applied for an LMIA this week.

However, the processing time for Work Permits is about 43 days. Here is my question...

Question:
My sister is to be married in India on April 8 2015 and I would like to visit her for her wedding. I would like to return subsequently in May, when the LMIA is expected to be approved.

My Options:
However, to return I would ned a multiple entry visa. Since the timeline for a work visa is 43 days I wanted to know if there is an urgent processing option so I can go to India on it an return.

My second option is to go back to India and apply for a visitor visa from there, which I would like to avoid. I have always been given visas and I would like to know from your experience what the best option is for me.

cheers,

There is no urgent processing option for this. That fact that you want to go to India - it's just your wish and CIC shouldn't care of this.

hi Encantado,

I understand. However, I have previously received a TRV on an urgent case when I received an approval on my International Experience Canada work permit. I did a flag pole and returned.

The other option I have is to send the passport directly to the Canadian Consulate in India, so they can stamp it there. It takes less than 6 days.
cheers

Hate to break to you my friend, but i think the best option for you is to submit an application for new work permit and stay in Canada while it is being processed because that permit will be mailed to you within Canada. Even if you obtain a return visa to Canada, once you arrive at the border CBSA might ask to see your work permit (because your visa will say what is your status in Canada) which you don't have and that could create a lot of implications. I personally don't think CIC will grant you a return visa because there is no reason, in their eyes, for your return until you have a work permit and a job here.

Hi SKGuy,

Thank you for your quick response.

I own 50% of the company in Canada, so yes I have a reason to return. I have also applied for an LMIA and we expect a result shortly. I expect these to be valid reasons to return. As far as return to Canada goes, I can return with a valid multiple entry visitor visa because I want to apply for my work permit here.

thanks again,
