I have seen this question posted a couple different ways. My situation is a little out of the ordinary though so I havent really found an answer that pretains to me. My visit is going to be in just over 1 week ( Hopefully ) and I am stressing over some details. About 4.5 years ago I will be the first to admit that I had a very irrisponsible way of going about things. This resulted in me obtaining 3 tickets for driving without insurance all within a 1 month period. My 3 court appearances all occoured within the same week at different courthouses in different districts. At each of these court dates I was charged with "1st offense driving without insurance" and asked to pay a fine. In the state of hawaii a 2nd offense of driving without insurance would be considered a misdemeanor and i can only guess what a 3rd offense would be. I was never given a criminal charge to my knowledge as I wouldhave definitely recieved on a 2nd or 3rd offense had the court system effectively communicated between courthouses. I have paid all of my fines and since lived a much more responsible life and have had no other legal issues whatsoever. I have looked up my traffic court record and I find these "driving without insurance" charges (these are listed as "traffic crimes") alongside my minor speeding ticket. I did a search for my "Criminal record" in the state of hawaii and found that it was completely clean. Since I was never charged with a misdemeanor or felony, do i need to bring this up to the canadian border agent at the airport when asked if i have ever been convicted of a crime? Or can I honestly say that I have never been convicted of a crime? I know that the law in canada treats driving without insurance differently as it is not spoken of in the canadian criminal code, so that leads me to believe that i have nothing to worry about. But what about 3 occournaces? How would that be treated? I just want to know the right thing to say to the border agent because I definitely dont want to lie but I also do not want to give up unnecessary information that may prevent me from going on my trip. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!!
