So got a lay-off from work and decided to travel for a bit and come back to find a job believing that having a valid work permit is enough for re-entry, but turns out not and got informed at the airport when they didn't allow me to take my flight to come back to Canada.
Now apparently I have to apply for a temporary resident visa to get back, and I have to be back soon since I'm running out of money and want to get back to real life quicker, but some stuff are unclear, a bit of back ground first.
Now some questions:
Now apparently I have to apply for a temporary resident visa to get back, and I have to be back soon since I'm running out of money and want to get back to real life quicker, but some stuff are unclear, a bit of back ground first.
- I'm on a post-graduate open work permit, have worked in BC for about a year after finishing my masters.
- Don't have a job offer at the moment, obviously, but eligible to get employment insurance as soon as I get back
- have recently submitted my permanent residency application through provincial nomination program
Now some questions:
- What's the best way to request an urgent processing of my application. Planning to submit the app online, should I wait until tomorrow so that the local embassy is open and give them a phone call first?
- I'm on a Schengen visa here and obviously cannot get to Canada to apply from there, nor I can get to my country of citizenship at this point. Is it ok to submit the application to a European embassy?
- In the application form it asks if I'm a resident of Canada. Should I answer yes? To me seems like I'm a resident of Canada at the moment and I just happen to be outside Canada at this point (travelling)
- They say you should convince the officer that you're planning to stay temporarily and go back to your own country after the stay. How does this apply to my situation? Clearly I'm not planning to leave Canada since I've applied for PR and I call Canada home, what should I do and how should I work this in my letter of explanation?
- When it comes to available funds, I don't have much money available in my bank account, but clearly I have an open work permit and eligible to get Employment insurance as soon as I get to Canada. Is this enough for financial requirements?
- How quickly can I expect to get my visa? I took more than 2 months for my study visa before coming to Canada, would it be more or less the same or it would be pretty quick based on the my new situation?
- On this page (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/visa.asp), looks like applying on paper needs a lot of more documents than when applying online. The current online application I've started only asks for two forms, the work permit, my passport and a digital photo. Are these enough or I should still provide the family information form, birth certificates, etc.?
