So im in my 2nd year at university and my Study Permit and Temporary Resident Visa are both expiring in March. I am heading outside of Canada (back home) in April.

Im in Canada atm, what should I do?

The processing time for applying for extension of stay in Canada (to vegreville Alberta) is 48 days.

Is it advisable if I send an application for Visa FIRST to Buffalo NY (Wait days are 10-15). Once I get my Visa I can leave Canada. Then when I come back to Canada I will be issued a study permit at the airport?

Is this a better way?

No, I think for in-country applications you receive your study permit with your visa (as long as you're studying). I am not 100% sure about it though ! Don't try anything that you may regret at a later stage i.e just go by the book, if it takes 48 days, so be it. Even if it takes to delay your travel plans its OK, bear in mind that study permit does NOT entitle re-entry into Canada. Act as soon as possible to apply for extension because CIC advise you to apply at least 2 months prior to expiry date of your visa.

Cheers ;-)
