Hi All,

If I pursue a 1 year Post graduate diploma /certificate program from a Private Institute /College which is not on the list of participating institutions as on CIC website BUT this private institute has a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) number as seen on the CIC website, then will I be eligible to apply for 1 year PGWP after completion of my 1 year program ?

Please help me with an answer on this.

Thanks..

Yes, You will be eligible for One year Open Work Permit after completing one year course in any college of Canada which has DLI number. Doesn't matter if your college is not under SPP.

Hey.. thanks for that information. Can you please confirm this by providing an weblink. I tried finding a lot but the CIC website has limited information about DLI number.. did I miss something?

Hey.. thanks for the information. I read on the CIC website that If you select a program for minimum 8 months then you are eligible to stay for another 8 months towards PGWP.. So by your statement, how can any college/university offer a degree for 8 months ? Please clarify this for me.

better, don't get into a private institute, why you want to take chances? today it is a designated learning institute, tomorrow it might not remain. private institute or career colleges in canada do not carry a very good reputation.

Read this:
to get PGWP you should've studied at -

a private post-secondary institution that
operates under the same rules and
regulations as public institutions, or

a Canadian private institution
authorized by provincial statute to
confer degrees but only if you are
enrolled in one of the programs of
study leading to a degree as authorized
by the province and not in all programs
of study offered by the private
institution .

So I guess mead was talking about the 2nd one. If your institution is private; not operating under same rules as Public institutions AND is allowed to confer degree lets call it XYZ by a provincial authority, you must have enrolled in XYZ degree not any ABC degree of that institution.
The institution can be of help. Ask them about your doubts. If possible, just get into Public institution. Good luck.

thank you @sidhu_anwar
if only people would read on official site...
designated list does not have anything to do with PGWP its just a list of institutions for which CIC would give visa/study permits.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-institutions-list.asp

PGWP requirements r as per the other link that i posted above.
always try to avoid private college they may have poor educational standards.
i personally feel even public colleges r a scam ....private colleges r even worst than public .

That was a comparatively pretty non-egoistic neat answer. You surely do understand a newbie point of view. I will surely check this with the institute.. Thanks.
