I don't see any harm in applying for citizenship under the old rules as soon as you qualify. The timeline could drop by the time you qualify. It is all speculation as to how much the timeline will drop under the new rule.

If I were you, the day after you qualify under the old rule, check out the updated timeline then. Once you see that the timeline has dropped or has extended, you can make a decision. Apply under old rule or new rule. But you cannot for sure say that the timeline will drop to 12 months under the new rule. That is the goal under the new rule but it is not written in stone.
It makes a difference, maybe even two; under the current law/rule a citizenship judge has to make the final decision and citizenship judges are only few.
Under the new law/rule that decision can be made by a CIC officer.
On the other hand, applying now very likely most of the applications will be processed very fast; if they grant citizenship to 200-300,000 people before next year elections there is a good chance many of them will vote Harper. 100,000 votes can make the difference.

The people who are making a fuss are usually the ones who would qualify under the old 3 / 4 year rule just around the time when the new 4 out of 6 year rule go into effect.

Like me.

I may miss the cutoff by eight days. And being a US citizen, that means two more years of waiting before I can renounce my US citizenship because of FATCA. They raised the cost to renounce last month from $450 to $2300. Who knows what it will be by the time I can get to it.

Enough to cover the cost of obamacare. I mean why pay for obamacare when you are not using it yourself. Obama now sees that his famous Obamacare is backfiring with all the expat americans renouncing in records time. So the Obama government increased the fees to keep the revenue coming in to support his flawed obamacare.

Right now the citizenship process has been revamped to have CIC officers make the decision. The question is will the current applications under the old 3 / 4 year still go to citizenship judges or CIC officers.

It never stated that in any of the announcements other than that it process has been revamped.

I am now eligible to apply for citizenship under the current law. But I am thinking of holding sending my application until the new rule sets in. Current rule takes minimum 3 years to process and others said even more. Meaning if I send my application in July 2014, I won't expect to get approval by July 2017. However, if I would send my application next year, say July 2015, when the new rule is in place, I will be a Canadian citizen by July 2016!! What do you think people? ;)
absolutely not! my apps takes only 10 months from application to oath taking

all the western cities are slower, may be due to short staffed!

Here is the link if you guys want to see what is happening.
