Hi

I applied for the federal skilled worker program in February 2017. I was then invited to apply for the PR and I submitted my full application in May 2017. The application included a medical exam that I passed in July 2017.

Just yesterday (July 27, 2018), I received an email titled: Ready for visa. It says that my application has been processed and it is almost complete and I need to submit final documents. One of the requirements is informing them about any changes in health. In October 2017, I was diagnosed with HIV and I have been on medication since then. I live in the US (but I am not American) and the medication has been all covered by a program in my state.

I have read the different threads about HIV in the forum, and they were all helpful. However, is there any advice about how I should proceed. I obviously have to disclose my new change in health, but what will the effect on my application be? Does it matter if the health situation occurred post processing? How does the recent change in the immigration law regarding medical inadmissibility affect me?

I appreciate any help or information (if you can point me to an attorney, that would be great too).

Thank you

Yes you need to disclose. HIV+ individuals have been able to get PR even before the change in the medical inadmissibility rules. All depends on your general health and medication choice. One issue is that Rx medications are not covered in most provinces. Many employers provide extended health coverage with some reimbursement for Rx drugs. You will have to consider the costs of medication in your plans and look into each provincial health plan.
