Are you a Canadian citizen or PR?

You need to be living in Canada to sponsor your spouse as a PR. You can take short trips outside of Canada while the sponsorship application is being processed (e.g. a few weeks). However you must be living in Canada for most of the time the application is processed.

It's really your choice. If you get married before you land in Canada and become a PR, then it is mandatory that you add your new spouse to your application before landing.
