Hello everyone,
I’m really confused that’s why I need your help. I can either apply as federal skilled worker as lecturer or under PhD stream TA/RA. I have experience from back home as TA for 4 yr then promoted after I got my Master’s degree to lecturer for 1 yr. So this was a continuous full time job. Then another 1yr experience from university of Alberta as TA/RA. I’m wondering if I would like to apply as lecturer under NOC occupation, does my experience will be counted as 6yrs (in total) or 1yr ? Also I will include letter of attestation to show that I studied in Canada for 2 yrs, despite I’m not sure if it will be counted. Do you think it is better to apply as FSW (lecturer) or under PhD stream?
In case of applying as lecture, I have 63 points by counting 1 yr experience or 68 points in case the letter of attestation is counted as 5 points.
In case of applying under PhD stream TA/RA with 4 yr experience, I have 67 points.
So please let me know what do you think.
Thanks a lot.

It is too late for you now to apply under the current FSW program. You should check the point scheme under the express entry and figure out what's best for you.

Thanks Nasmaste for your reply. Is it not open until Dec 31st?
Any idea about how the work experience will be counted in my case, 1yr or the total (5yr)?

In NOC category your 4011 experience [at least one year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience] will allow your case to be processed. Then your TA + Lecturer experience should give you 5 years of total continuous work experience. However, if the officer is not satisfied that your work letter satisfy 4011, they will immediately return your entire application and you should know this within 3-4 months after you applied. You will get your application fee back.

In the PhD category you need to be currently studying phd in Canada for two or more years or you apply within one year after the receival of your phd degree. Your application is pretty guaranteed to be eligible to be processed. However, then they look at your work letters a few months later. If the officer is not satisfied that you have at least one year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience in 4011 or 4012 with your work letter, they will reject your entire application. One year of continuous full-time (or equivalent part-time) experience is a must for FSW.

You are safer in the phd category, as they also consider your 4012 experience if the officer is not satisfied that you fulfilled 4011. However, you won't know whether you get rejected or not until 6-12 months after you applied.

Thanks a lot Specialmary for your reply.
This is really answered my concerns. I'm afraid that the cap is reached already for 4012 despite it is safer for me applying under PhD category as you said.
Thanks again.
