Hi there,

I am in serious need of help and advice. Me and my spouse have sponsored my parents back in 2010. In august 2013, document request came. We send all forms along with pcc, photos and fee. We have also enclosed option c for the year 2009 and 2010 as requested.

But 2 weeks ago instead of getting sponsor approval from mississauga, we received a letter saying that they cannot process our application as it is incomplete.

They need income proof from oct 2012 to oct 2013. They need option c for 2012 and pay stubs for 2013. They also wanted sponsorshi evalution form from both of us.

Now problem is we have maintained minimum required income throughout these years I.e 2009 to 2012 and there is no problem. But in 2013 I am on lay off employment insurance. In sponsorship evalution guide it is mention that they donot consider this EI as income.

Although we still eligible according to sponsorship evalution, because it takes income either recent 12 months or last year I.e 2012, whichever is highest. So even if we they donot consider my EI even then we are eligible based on year 2012.

But my concern is once approved from mississauga, they will know that on 2013 I was on lay off. And if lay off is not consider as income then our family income will be short by $8000 in 2013. If they consider it then it will be fine.

So are they not considering the lay off income only when checking sposnorship evalution or throughout this immigration process?

Please I will really appreciate your replies.

Just my opinion here, but to answer the big question on your mind, I do not believe receiving EI for your most recent year will jeopardize your sponsorship. I'm not sure why they don't consider it income (and if you'd be kind as to toss me a URL here that I can go check out the info for myself to verify), but it is also not social assistance (i.e. welfare). It is something you are entitled to given that you paid into it during your time of employment.

The reason they want pay stubs for 2013 is because the Option C won't otherwise exist until next Spring. For this purpose I believe EI receipts (if this is what they give you) would still be valid to submit as proof of income.
