A friend of mine from South Africa applied for a visitor visa to travel to Canada and was approved for a one month visa which was affixed to his South African passport in Pretoria prior to leaving for Canada. He is now visiting Canada and wishes to stay a month or so longer. Upon entering canada the immigration officer stamped his passport with a 6 month visitor stamp. Does my friend need to adhere to the initial one month visa he was given when he left South Africa and apply for an extension to extend his one month visitor visa or is he permitted to adhere/follow the 6 month visa that was stamped in his passport upon entry to Canada?
Based on the information above, what is the process to have his visit extended another month? Does he need to notify immigration that he intends on staying a month longer or does he simply ignore his initial one month visa as he was given a total of 6 months upon entry ( as long as he returns to South Africa before the 6 month visa expires)?
Any information regarding this extension/process is greatly appreciated.
