Hey everyone, little bit unsure of what to do here and would appreciate some advice!

Im currently in Canada visiting my girlfriend and have been since December 3rd 2016. I have had a return flight booked for January 20th 2017 since September (when I booked both flights with Westjet).

Im due to fly home in a couple of days but have just realised an issue with my arrival stamp and it could cause me issues and I don't really know where to turn to get some clarification on this!

I was truthful every step of the way during the border proceedings, and on the declaration card, saying i was booked on a return flight on the 20th January. I even got called into secondary and they asked me how long I was there for, showed them my return flight itinerary and they were happy with it (asked some questions like what I will be doing, will i be working etc? (I wasn't, simple visit to the gf over christmas)). I have just noticed though that my passport stamp has written under it, 02 Jan 17, and that is usually the date I need to leave by, correct? Im sure this is just a simple mistake by the border officer and they they got the numbers mixed around and it should show 20 Jan 17 (as I went to secondary and they didn't flag anything, and i was never told either by anyone that I need to leave BEFORE my scheduled return flight, which is something Id assume they would do if they wanted me to leave before).

I should have noticed earlier but being called into secondary for the first time in my life flustered me and like I say, I just expected the secondary inspection to have solved anything (and noticed this issue especially!) and nobody said anything at all to me about it.

So here are my questions... Is there a computer system that will be showing the correct date that i'm supposed to leave or have I technically overstayed because thats what the border officer wrote in the passport? I had a file in secondary inspection so I assume theres some sort of record somewhere that i'm supposed to be staying until the 20th but is there anyone I can contact to verify this?

Is there also any way to get this mistake rectified in my passport, or a letter explaining that this is a mistake in my passport if it turns out it is actually a mistake? Im aiming to enter Canada on an IEC work permit in a few months and feel like this mistake in my passport will hinder my chances with the application, as they ask to see all passport pages with stamps on it and then they'll assume Ive overstayed by 18 days which is a big no no.

I appreciate any help on this subject, like I say, I leave on the 20th (3 days) and would like to sort this while i'm still in the country rather than out of it! Thanks!

There is little you can do.

- Yes, you have technically overstayed based on what your passport stamp says.
- Yes, the actual date taken into account is the one in the system
- You can try calling CIC, and leave notice but you won't get an answer right away, all process take time. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/contacts/call.asp
- CIC service line does not have access to files, so explaining this to them is irrelevant.

Good luck!
