Seniors and PMM, i d appreciate for any advices based on past personal or friend's experience on the spouse work-permit extension. Please noted that my wife and I are currently in Canada.
My wife came to Canada for a one-year certificate program, and was granted a one-year post-grad work-permit shortly after graduation. Back then we were not married yet. We got married in January 2011. I am myself currently a three-year post-grad work-permit holder. As her work-permit is about to expire by June 2011, we plan to extend her stay on a spouse work-permit with the same validity period as mine provided that I have a valid post-grad work-permit.
I read CIC website and am concerned about the following remark.
“Note: Accompanying spouses or common-law partners of foreign students (including spouses or common-law partners of foreign students with post-graduation work permits) are eligible for an open work permit, which means they do not need a job offer or a labour market opinion from Service Canada.”
My wife came to Canada on her own Study Permit and now on a Post-grad work-permit, which to me is not considered as an “Accompanying spouse”. Another clause states that spouses themselves may not enrolled in a full-time study, but she has completed her full-time study. Regarding this matter, I have consulted CIC call-center several times but received different outcomes: while some positive and other negative ones.
Thank you and best regards,
