Hi there,

So today cic asks me to provide a letter showing the date I am expecting to graduate from my masters program in Canada!
I am currently master student here and live in Montreal now. I will be graduating next April and I intent to live in Ontario after graduation. I also mentioned my student status in my letter of explanation.
My question is, why are they asking me for date that I will be graduating? As far as I remember, there is no requirement that you shouldn't be a student when getting your PR. I am just not sure why they need this information :( Do you have any idea?

I included that on the personal information part but I didn't use this master to get additional points or anything. What are your thoughts?

I am also a student. I included my ongoing study in my education section ( i didnot get any points for it because i am still studying). I included in my application an enrolment letter from my university. In that letter they wrote an expected date to finish my study.. i included it as an extra document ( i didnot know that they might need it).

Just ask ur university to give u that letter and uploaded. Donot worry.

Good luck

Because they're considering whether to grant you PR status through the non Quebec route considering you'll still be residing in Quebec until April next year if they grant you the PR. 2 things might happen now after receiving your graduation date:
1) They might say since you have about 6 months left until graduation before moving to Ontario they'll grant you the PR since you haven't got long left or
2)They might say since you have about 6 months left until graduation before moving to Ontario they'll consider the 6 months a long time to keep residing in Quebec and reject your PR on the basis that you should apply for PR via the Quebec skilled workers program.

Hi Chantal, thank you for your message. Are you also living in Quebec? Have you got positive result on your PR application yet? How long from your studies is still remained? Thank you

I really hope they choose to do the first option :)
