I came in Canada on PR in 2018 and biometrics were not taken at that time. But during US entry, fingerprints were taken.
My question is : Are fingerprints required during citizenship application?

If fingerprints are required, IRCC will send you an email asking you to provide your fingerprints
That email will have all the details on how to go about the process

That I am aware IRCC will contact, my question is: Do they ask for it as if it could take some more time in application completion time? I was just estimating total time in application

You cannot expedite your application by taking fingerprints before your application if that's what you are asking.

If you do not meet their FP exempt criteria then you will be asked to provide fingerprints and additional information will be provided to you on how to submit your FP and what to expect.

IRCC asks for FP from applicants. Will they ask from you, no body know tbh.
They asked FP for me and my spouse.
FP centers will only ask you to come and submit FP if you have a IRCC document that requests for FP. This document has instructions to where the FP has to go.
The request for FP for us came from IRCC Vancouver office, although we are based in Ontario and our application was handled by the Scarborough office.
The time for processing of FP also varies. Our was updated in about 5 weeks, but I have seen other like @rizwan150 who FP took a long time to get updated.
