Urgent Advice Needed - Should I Cancel My PGWP Application?

I graduated some time around May of this year. I applied for a PGWP but I still haven't heard back. My program was 2 years long.

I just wanted to ask, when do they decide what the start date of your PGWP is? As in, if your PGWP is 2 years long......when does it actually start? When they process the PGWP? Or is the duration considered to start right from when you apply? Eg: If you apply in May and they process the PGWP in September...........does the 24th month validity start from May itself or from September?

Because I still have not found a job. It's turning out to be very difficult. I also don't have work experience so I need to put together a portfolio. I'm scared about how much time all this is going to take. So I was wondering..........do you think I should cancel my PGWP application, look for a job, and once I have a job confirmed, I should then again apply for the PGWP? That way I won't need to waste any of the time on my PGWP to look for the job.

I know they say you can only get a PGWP once, but I'm wondering if I can withdraw the application since they have not yet processed it.

Also just one more question. I know that students who do 2 year programs can get a 3 year PGWP. Do you have to specifically ask the officer for this? If you don't ask, will they just give you a 2 year permit?

From when your study permit expires till your WP arrives, you are on implied status. As long as you have applied for PGWP, you can start working full time while you wait for a decision

Once that is done, it has consequences

I know they say you can only get a PGWP once, but I'm wondering if I can withdraw the application since they have not yet processed it. You can withdraw but read my point above. This does not make any sense to me

If you don't ask, will they just give you a 2 year permit? You will get 3 years of WP or expiry of your passport whichever is recent. You do not need to ask the officer anything. Your PGWP will be processed based on the docs you submitted with it.

Good Luck

Yeah but isn't there a 6 month period between when you can apply for a PGWP and graduate? The IRCC webesite said you had 180 days to apply. That's a long time. So even if a student's study permit expires, couldn't they go to their home country and use those 6 months to search for a job through the internet? And then make the PGWP application after they make some progress with job hunting?
