Hi everyone,

I need to apply for TRV now but I am afraid that I will not get my passport back before I need to leave the country. I think I have 2 options, please let me know if any of them can work or if you have other suggestions. Thanks!

1) Apply within Canada, leave the country before the passport arrives and have a friend mail me my passport so that I can use it to enter the country.
2) Apply outside Canada.

Also, is it better to apply online or on paper in this case?

Please help!
Thank you so much!!!!

How do you expect to leave Canada without being required to show a valid passport? Where are you going to?

If you apply online, you can do that.

I've done it two times, I have my online application pending, travel internationally while they process it and when I hear back to submit my passport: I send it to the visa office.

Needless to say while they keep my passport to put the stamp on it I cant travel.

So apply online!

Thanks for the answer. I am still confused though... Do I say in the online application that I am in Canada or not? I think I have read it somewhere else on the forum that the Ottawa office does not send passports internationally, and I might be abroad when they have to send it back...
Can I submit the pass to some other visa office?
Thanks again!

Not sure if you can send it abroad for stamping, you would probably would have to ask CIC.

I am in the US, and travel frequently, so I just apply online and send it to the LA office once I get back (I am not an US national).

Depending on the location that you mention in your application is where you would have to send your passport; so in this case not sure what you should mark. Another option is to send the online application, mark wherever you feel you spend most of your time as country of residence and include an explanation letter informing them of your travel and that it would be easier for you to send the passport to another office.

Thanks for your answer. I will definitely include a letter of explanation and I will email them too. Thanks again!
