Upload new passport request Express Entry

Hi all,

I applied for Express Entry under CEC along with my wife (me as primary applicant). I am currently in Canada with an Open Work Permit. On 30th April 2021, I received a letter from CIC informing me that I need to renew my passport and upload it to my profile:

Thank you for your interest in Canada.

We have begun processing your application for permanent residence, and in order to make a decision we
require the following information/documents:

• Passport/Travel Doc (Multiple): Please provide a new passport/Travel Document. This must be received at this office by: 2021/05/07

Please note that the requested information/documents must be received within 7 days from the date of this
correspondence. Please upload these documents to your MyCIC account.

If we do not receive the information/documents within 7 days, your application will be assessed based on
the information we have on file, meaning your application could be refused as incomplete.

I have a Pakistani passport with expiry date of 22 Oct 2021. When I applied for Express Entry my passport was still 8 months away from expiry. The processing time for passport renewal is at least 30 days (15 in case of urgent) provided there are no courier delays as the passports are printed in Pakistan. My questions are:

1. How can I request for additional time to upload new passport and does CIC extend deadlines for passport renewal?
2. If I don't upload the passport by 7 May 2021, will my application be rejected?
3. I also got a request to submit fingerprints for my wife (with deadline of 90 days). Will her application be rejected as well?

I don't understand how why they gave such a short time to upload new passport for a person who is not currently in his home country. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

@legalfalcon - Even I'm in a similar situation, please advice

1. You can request for additional time by sending a webform and include document showing that you have applied for a passport renewal.
2. No, however, you should inform IRCC that you need more time and it will be provided.
3. No, however, if you are unable to provide the biometrics within 90 days, you can send a webform and ask for additional time. IRCC will give additional time.
