Upfront medical exam?

Hi -

My partner (Canadian citizen) and I (US citizen) are applying for my family class permanent residency within the next few months. We live in Alaska, where it's not easy to hop on a plane at short notice. We've done research and it sounds like we would have to go to Washington state or to BC within 30 days of hearing back from the CIC in order to complete a medical exam. No locations in our state have a panel physician. My question is, is it still possible to do an upfront medical exam, then submit our application? If not, do you know how long it takes to hear back (on average, obviously not guaranteed) from the CIC so we can plan to travel during the summer months?

Thanks!

It appears the days of upfront medical exams are over, at least for spousal sponsorship. You'll have to wait for the medical request from CIC. Since CIC started using the new forms and application procedure recently, I don't know if anyone could accurately predict how long it will take to receive the request. Right now, it's only taking 4-6 months for US->Canada Spousal Outland PR to go through, so I would think you'd receive your medical request approximately 1-2 months after submitting your application. This is just an educated guess, so don't hold me to it.

I would suggest going to Seattle:

City: Seattle
Name: Eric J. Strandberg
Address: US HealthWorks,
140 4th Ave North, Suite 150,
Washington
98109
Telephone: 206-682-7418
Spoken Languages: English

before the new process, there was an alternative for the exam if there was not a panel physician within 250 mi. of the applicant's location. i am not finding this language on the site anymore, though that doesn't mean it's not possible to find an alternative in Alaska. If you've received SA and the application has been transferred already, i'd recommend sending a case specific enquiry asking IRCC what to do in this situation. you may find you won't have to travel as far as you think.

Thanks for both answers! I am hoping there will be good news for us (and good weather if we must travel to Seattle before summer!) ;D

Panel Physicians set their own prices, so you need to call around.

Insurance doesn't cover the medical because it is elective.
