UPFRONT medical exam for EE. How?

Has anyone done an upfront ME so far? I am planning to apply for EE anytime soon and want to try to get ME in advance.
There were people said that it is possible. There was no category for EE in their systems for a long time and if it remains the same, no matter when you are requesting ME - they will still put you under either family or student/work category in their system. Considering that it doesn't really matter when you are doing your ME. I'm thinking of requesting an upfront ME under Family category. I did not apply for EE yet. What are the steps?

1. Go to clinic.
2. Have the exams done.
3. Get receipt and "upfront medical exam form" (or "information printout sheet").
4. Apply for EE.
5. Receive ITA.
6. Submit the form got from the clinic, when asked to provide your medical exams.

Did I miss anything? Do I need to call my clinic to ask them to send my results as well?

I know but seems CIC just recommends that, it is not a formal rule, that can be broken. They recommend that because they don't want people to spend their money for nothing in case they won't receive ITA. I know that I will receive my ITA (I will have over 1000 points). That's why I want to do the ME ahead of time.

Hey buddy yes go do it.. That's what I did I had an lmia so I knew I would get picked.. Every thing you have described in the steps is what you do.. Except you don't need to ring medical to upload they automatically create a file for you with cic so they upload your results directly provided they are cic approved .. It's really a handy process I found.. I choose non ede worker and I was passed my medical over 3 weeks ago. good luck

If that's the case, go ahead and schedule your medicals when you're sure that you will land an ITA in a forthcoming draw. CIC's recommendation comes on the back of their requirement that medicals not be more than 6 months old at the time of post ITA submission - that isn't a recommendation but a hard requirement.

Make sure it says "non EDE" (worker or visitor is not that big a deal).

The former stands for "Excessive demand exempt" which is only applicable to Refugees or spousal sponsorship.

So all economic class applications, CEC, FSW, PNP etc. under express entry should be NON EDE and preferably also say "for permanent residence application".

The administrative assistant would usually attach your ITA's printout with the records they send to CIC. If you are doing those before applying, you wont have it. But still its a good idea to make it very clear from hospital records going to CIC that it is for "Express entry PR application".

Also if you did medicals, applied and got ITA, it is possible that hospital hasn't forwarded your results yet (It takes a while to get reports of xrays and other tests), so you might add a print out of your ITA with it as soon as you have it.

Medical exams

Do not complete any medical exam until you get an Invitation to Apply. You must have a medical exam before you can become a permanent resident. Your family members must also have one, even if they are not coming with you.

We will not approve your permanent resident application if your health:

is a danger to Canada’s public health or safety, or
would cause too much demand on health or social services in Canada.


When the panel physician completes the medical exam, they will either give you an information printout sheet, or an IMM 1017B Upfront Medical Report form. You must provide a copy the document they gave you when you apply online.

Note: The results of your exam are only valid for 12 months. When you submit your application for permanent residence, the results of your exam must be valid for at least 6 months. If we approve your application, but you do not come to Canada as a permanent resident during those 12 months, you may need to have another exam. For this reason, it is a good idea to complete the exam as close as possible to the date you submit your online application.

Just inform the clinic that you're there for upfront medicals for Express Entry/PR purposes. They'll take it from there. The category is likely to be Non EDE Worker.

Where will I have to add print out of my ITA once I'll receive it again?

The clinic is likely to ask for your ITA while scheduling the medicals. If they don't need it then, you don't need to add a print out anywhere else.
