Updating work information after sending in application

Hello,

Ive been a reader of this forum for a while but havent made a post so this is my first time.

Recently, I applied to sponsor my girlfriend from outside Canada. We both live in Japan at the moment and we applied under Family Class - Common Law. We sent in our application around the middle of April, this month.

My question is regarding updating information, specifically employment. Now my understanding is that my application is not in process, yet, as I can not view the status using my receipt number. Therefore, the Manilla office still has not received the immigration application.

My girlfriend is contemplating quitting her current job and finding a new one. Suppose she does quit, how do I update the information on the application? Moreoever, does it make the processing time even longer? If so, how much?

I sent my package by courier to their courier address. Does Canada Immigration have a number I can use to call to get confirmation of them receiving my package? According to my tracking number, it was received.

Thanks for your help.
I hope all goes well.

Hi

It's not really necessary to update employment info, CIC only really wants to know about the big life changes (baby, marriage, separation etc). They don't contact her employer anyways.

Sometimes they will send AOR (Acknowledgement of Receipt) and sometimes you just get sponsor approval without having heard anything. Sponsor approval is about a month, then it takes a few weeks for the package to get to Manila, so it will reach Manila around beginning of June.

CIC doesn't have a number that can be called from outside Canada. If the tracking says it's there, you just have to wait for sponsor approval.

Agreed. Your application for basic info like this, only needs to be current as of the date you mailed the application. A change in employer afterwards, or whether or not shes employed at all... has absolutely no bearing on the applicant portion of application. So no need to contact CIC at all over this.

Hello.

Thanks for the response. Thats really good to know. My girlfriend is having a hard time at her job with her new supervisor and she doesnt have the motivation to continue her current job. Its good to know she can change jobs without any problems.

Will CIC notify me if the application is refused? If so, do they do it via email (I provided my email for contact purposes) or do they just return the application back to me??

Thanks again for the prompt responses. You are all very helpful.

Thanks

CIC will first notify you whether you are eligible to sponsor your wife via your email (or mail) providing you with a UCI and File number. You can use this to check eCas to keep track of your application.
Following that, whichever VO you filed with will have a timeline and during this time, you may or may not receive requests for additional info. When the decision on your wife's case is taken, she will then most likely receive her confirmation through the mail.

All the best!

They don't simply refuse applications. If there is a concern by CIC, they will almost always first give you the chance to send them additional proofs or documents to address their concerns. This goes for both sponsor and applicant.

Also before they refuse an application they will give the applicant an interview first, which would take place in Japan (I assume your gf is Japanese).

Anyways you shouldn't be worried... the successful approval rate for your location/situation, is in the 90-95% range. Is there any particular reason you are worried about refusal?

Thanks for he responses everybody.

To be honest I have no reason to be worried. I guess it's just I'm a negative nancy so I'm worrisome type of person.

Thanks for the help.
