Hi guys,

As I posted before, my fiance and I are getting married this coming March after the wedding, I will go back in Toronto for work and to complete all the requirements needed to sponsor.

I have heard yesterday from a friend that I don't have to worry about updating or renewing all my documents(status and last name) here in Toronto and same as my fiance in the Philippines like; PR card,SIN,healthcard,Philippine passport, bank cards, employment infos, revenue canada etc.,SSS(philippines) etc. inorder to process our papers as soon as I comeback. Is that right? And the only thing to proof to show that we are married is our marriage centificate? And no need to worry about our original or single status documents?Im still confuse about this. Coz at first I am thinking of renewing every single papers o documents we have but I think that will take a very long time.

If my friend is right, I'm still confuse when my fiance(husband) depart in the airport immigration and they will question him that how come all his documents(and my documents)says that we were still single and I'm still using my maiden name etc.You think it will cause us a problem?Or we just have to show our marriage certificate?

Please help us.

Or we really need to change our documents as married and my husband's last name?

Please help us.

There's nothing to say you have to change your last name. You can keep your maiden name as long as you like and if you want, you don't ever have to change it. It's not an issue with CIC. So if you'd rather wait until after you've done the sponsorship and your husband is in Canada, that's fine.

As for your marital status, it's not really part of any documents, is it? When it comes up, show that you're married, but other than that, you don't have to "report" the change anywhere right away (you'll have to mention it next time you file your taxes and when your husband moves to Canada, you'll update health insurance etc). The only thing that might suggest you're not married is you still having your maiden name, but you are well within your rights to keep that as long as you want.

If you DO change your last name, then yes, you should get your documents replaced as soon as you can.
