updating spouse's name on my indian passport

Hi There,
I got married in India and now I want to add my spouse's name on my passport. In addition, I will be applying for my spouse's visa to come to Canada.
My questions are as follows:
1. Can I apply for new passport to add my spouse's name while applying for his Canadian PR sponsorship in parallel?
2. How long it will take to update my passport with his name?
3. Can i apply for PCC (Police Clearance Certificate) without updating my spouse's name on my passport?
4. Also, do I need to notify this passport change information to CIC to update my PR card? How long they will take to update this info?

Yes.

But you will mostly likely not be able to send your PCC with your application. I know NewYork consulate simply refuses PCC's unless you have added your spouse's name on the passport.

Updating wife's name for me essentially meant getting a new passport (took I think 3 or 4 weeks for me).

No, unless you lie about your marital status. In the PCC form they would ask for marriage status. If that is not mentioned on passport, they would most likely refuse to provide it.

PR card/visa stamp is not directly related to your passport. You can continue renewing your passports, while the old visa sticker will still be valid. Although, if the change in passport happened "while your application is pending", of course you would need to update CIC about the changes. Btw, before Dec 2016 changes the PCC was supposed to be sent with the application or they would simply return the application packet. Now I think now you can submit PCC later. I think it should be possible to send updated passport if they allow later submission of PCC. And they should be able to update your file.

If I were you, I would simply update the passport, get a PCC and send a "COMPLETE" application packet. The process is long and why hold up your application for some random complication. You usually get only 1 month to supply a missing document. And no one knows how long it sets back your application. Why take risks! There are people waiting here since 2015. It's not a good idea to get your app packet in the forgotten pile.

HI Am having the exact issue .. So can you please tell me ,

1.) So is your passport got updated with spouse name?
2.)If so, then the passport number on IELTS Report card, and the passport number what we have mentioned while filling up the ITA form , will be mismatch right?
3.)Can we update the passport number in the CIC website, after receiving ITA?... how about IELTS report card
