Greetings,
I am Mahmoud, a Lebanese citizen who got admitted to the University of Ottawa for the Winter 2014 session under the ECE MASc program. I am applying online for my study permit right now, however I am very hesitant and require advice from experienced people regarding my situation:
1) My overall available funds are 40,000 $ which can reach 42,000 $ at maximum. Will it be sufficient for fees and living expenses?
(6311.85 $ for full time) (608$ per credit) (program consists of 30 credits)
2) If the answer to the first question was positive, what is the social atmosphere there? Will I be able to integrate or shall it be difficult during the first session. Will there be social pressure in addition to the academic one?
3) As an international student, what are my chances of getting an on-campus job? Can I get one during summer 2014 to keep myself in good financial standing for the coming years?
4) Finally, I have a question related to the duration of the program on my study permit. My program is a 2 years one. Courses start at January 6 2014. Does this mean that I should specify a to-from duration of (from: Jan 2014-to: Jan 2016)? What if I wanted to apply for a post graduate work permit? Can I extend this duration?
Your help is greatly appreciated and please note that your advice will help in motivating me to take the best decision.
Regards Mahmoud
