It's a bit of a difficult situation and I am unsure whether I need to split NOC codes or not.

I have been with the same company for 3+ years. In between I got promoted. I am unsure what to put in the application, whether if I need to put 2 separate positions or 1 position for my duration there.

I was an Associate Software Developer then I got promoted to Software Developer.

I spent a year in the first level (Associate Software Developer) and had these official duties (which are written on company's job profile):
Assist with developing component
  • Assist with testing component.
  • Assist with shaping documentation
  • Assist in gathering requirements
  • Provide component support beyond the first level
  • Other duties as assigned
Then I got promoted to the second level, after I changed the team within the same department. Officially (as written on company's job profile) I have these main tasks:
  • Develop component
  • Test component.
  • Shape documentation
  • Gather requirements
  • Provide component support beyond the first level
  • Other duties as assigned
Although my official position on paper was Software Developer, I was doing the same duties of a Technical Support Officer with the below duties (as written on company's job profile):
  • Investigate, diagnose and solve system related problems
  • Install and upgrades software
  • Schedule installation work, liaising with all concerned to ensure that installation priorities are met and disruption to the organization is minimized
  • Diagnose and solve problems and faults occurring in the operation of hardware and software
  • Comply with organization procedures to ensure integrity of the system
  • Advise users on appropriate course of action
  • Contribute to Service Call Centre Knowledgebase
  • Monitor issues from start to resolution
  • Other duties as assigned
I did a little bit of development, but very little.

I want to avoid telling my manager/HR that I am going to migrate (they are a bit vindictive).

What NOCs should I choose?

It seems NOC 2174 and NOC 2281/NOC 2282 (I do duties from both - kind of).

What do you suggest I choose and put in the application in from these? Or should I contact HR?

Any help regarding this? Should I choose one NOC (2174) for both (since it is a promotion with added responsibilities) or choose two separate NOCs?

Claim one NOC you want but make two separate paragraphs in your letter.

blivori worked as <title here> from <start> to <end>. His duties were
1, 2, 3, 4, 5

then blivori was promoted as <title here> from <start> to <end>. his duties were
1, 2, 3,4, 5.
Thanks!! So one NOC for the experience and then explain it in letter?

E.g.:
Level 1 - Duties 1,2,3,4,5
Level 2 - Duties 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8?

Yes because it says your primary work. I would take the most recent NOC as my main claim. I would just ask the HR to write two different paragraphs in your job experience/certificate of service.
Well my official position is the same (software developer) but my main duties are less development and more technical support (as of lately). But within 3 years I can say that I did both amount of duties. So I think I am going to go by my job title and do as you said, in the letter I write I had added duties. I am trying to avoid contacting HR.

What do you suggest?

But you do know you need a job certificate that stated your length of service, hours/week, duties, salary, and an HR-rep signature, don't you? At the moment it is really mixed, whether you can include separate letters for every single things, or if it has to be in one formal letter. Even for people who succeeded in submitting different papers, they usually have a strong case for submitting them like so (like having actually asked HR/Manager but got rejected).

Refer here for one's experience:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ImmigrationCanada/comments/7vh0da/pr_denied_based_on_mistake/

I had such letter, but only recently I had a discussion over PMs with a kind user who had helped me to flesh out my letter. Even with the right format, if it has not been fleshed out in details, it would not work. Let alone separate pieces of papers.
I know, but I thought I had to supply those when I get an ITA? I don't want to notify them I am going to leave before I get an ITA, that's my problem. I don't want my position within the company to change if I don't get accepted anyway.

I have also asked over reddit and I was told that I should not contact HR beforehand because they will not be of any help. Do you suggest I should talk to them before I apply?

Situations differ, as I stopped working then asked for the letter. ITA or not you could still fail, which is why I have been so stressed about all this. In theory you only need their statements after ITA during eAPR checklist, but you could also argue the HR might be pissed by then because you did not give them enough time to consider your eventual leave.

My point is ok, we are on the same page, I thought you were already submitting some documents. At the end of the day you need a letter (yes) or a written no before you could submit position description and contract separately.
Thank you again, can you explain the last paragraph because I did not understand well. I just created a GCKey account without applying as I still have this issue (the one we're talking about) to solve. What do you mean by written no?

So I DO need the job description/reference letter before I apply?
