unpaid research assistant as work experience

Hi
I have been working in my professor's lab in different research projects. however, since he did not have any grant or funding I have not been paid for my research activities ( which I am ok with). I do have an Ontario trillium scholarship which is paid to me every semester, although regardless of the research that i do. Now my question is : Is my RA considered a work experience? I can get a letter from my prof that I have worked for him.

It is considered "work experience" and you can put it on your Resume/CV but you can not use it for immigration purposes. Work experience for immigration purposes must be paid work.
