Unborn Baby - Wait before sending application?

My wife is Canadian and I am from Scotland. She is sponsoring me and we are ready to send our application off. However, we are expecting our first child in April. Obviously we cannot put the details of our child in the application before it is born, but should we wait until we can include the baby or should we just send it off now? We have mentioned the baby in photographs etc in the proof of relationship questions.

Complicated Complicated ???

i sent mine off the day before my son was born (scheduled c-section).. if you wait, you'll also have to wait until your child has proper ID to include with the process... which may add more time.... we did the same (mention baby in the paper work "unborn child, due xxxxxx in listing of children and in any relationship justification questions)

we applied sept 30 (son born oct 1)... we got a letter feb 8 saying we needed to bring in a copy of our son's b/c which wasn't an issue because we had ample time to get it... you could be proactive and send it as soon as you get it...

that's what i did at least... we just got the call to drop off the passport yesterday (kingston jamaica, 4m from applying, which is very fast by their standards, so it didn't slow us down any)....

hope that helps

The child will be a Canadian citizen, i.e. his/her mother is Canadian. So unless the child is a second generation born abroad, then she/he is not included in the application, so you don't have to wait.

the child is born or claimed to/by the applicant and must be included in the application regardless of citizenship... i am the canadian sponsor and they sent the letter requesting "a copy of your canadian born child" to my husband...

you will need to include him/her

congrats by the way... babies are great!

The child needs to be listed as a family member - but what PMM is talking about is that the child does not have to be sponsored for permanent residence as s/he will be a Canadian citizen. So there is no need to wait for the birth of the child to submit the PR application - his or her birth certificate can be sent to the processing office once s/he is born, but that's only a formality. S/he does not have to be sponsored.

However, the child will need a Citizenship Certificate in order to get a Canadian passport - which will be very important because, in order to travel to Canada for the mother to land (and the Confirmation of Permanent Residence WILL have an expiration date) the child will need his/her passport. This is a much more important consideration than an argument about whether or not the child has to be listed on the PR application.

I apologize if my terminology isn't kosher, but yes of course the child doesn't need to be sponsored, but their existance is documented under children (for both applicant and sponsor)... This is where I listed unborn child and had to submit my sons bc during processing as requested... I am suggesting the OP does the same as it allows them to file sooner and likely will not hold up the process (ours hasn't really, other than the couple weeks it took for them to send the letter, which can be avoided by dropping off bc (at applicant office) as soon as available...

The child is being born in Canada (I assume) to the Canadian mother(like my son) and doesn't need anything other than a birth certificate to demonstrate Canadian citizenship, so that's a non issue

(I'm up here feeding my baby, hopefully that makes sense lol)

just read over the OPs history and it appears that the baby will be born out of Canada, but the mother is Canadian, so not sure how that works as far as getting passport, I think Scottish can visit without visa, so wouldn't they just carry him over on a Scottish ppt when they arrive and apply for citizenship then? (which is a tecnicality)... This is what I did with my US born daughter a few years back... Took me 11m to get her citizenship card in Canada...

No, you do not list unborn children on your application.

Dwthomson: I don't see any reason to wait to submit your application. If you have everything completed now, just send it now. Keep in mind that your police clearance certificate has to be not more than 3 months old when you submit your application.
