Hi folks,

My wife is from the UK and we're applying outland.

We had a legal wedding already and she's in the UK currently for work. The plan is for her to come over for the religious ceremony and stay on as a visitor while waiting for the PR to get processed.

Now the questions:

1. We thought that a religious ceremony would show a further proof of genuine relationship, so we're including a lot of evidence of the planning etc. Is this a good idea? Would all this just create confusion for the immigration people? Would they question whether we are already considered married or not if we ourselves feel the need for a religious wedding?
2. Is it ok to state outright in our application that she's going to come here with a plan to wait out the PR? Does that jeopordize the application at all?
3. If she chucks up her job before coming, is that a big red flag for them when she visits?

Thanks in advance for the advice!

1. A religious ceremony doesn't add more credibility to your application, but more evidence of the relationship is good.

2. I wouldn't state it explicitly, but there is nothing wrong with an extended vacation in Canada while the PR application is ongoing.

3. The UK is a non-visa country, so it's not a major issue. Just tell the truth and make sure to comply with the law.

Thanks Mapleson! We calmed down a bit after thinking about it - I suspect all they want to know is its a valid relationship and we have plenty of proof of that.

You are highly unlikely to have any issues, as long as you follow the guidance given in that link.

The FAQ linked in my signature will also help you out as you put your application together, as it answers most of the big questions Brits have when doing their outland applications.

Good luck!
