UK electrician looking to emigrate

Hi everyone,

We are after some advice.

1. Can we just up sticks from here in the UK next summer, land in Ontario and look for work?
2. If we can't do that, do we have to have job offers before we apply for a work visa? I am 32, my husband is 29 (he is the electrician).
3. If none of these are possible, does anyone know of any companies willing to employ a British Electrician, who is really looking to go through the Skilled Trades permanent residency route, but is getting caught up in the most ridiculous red tape and catch 22 situation ! (Can you feel my exasperation!)

You can look for a work, but not work on the job you find. You need a work permit for working legally in Canada.

Yes. You need a job offer and a LMIA (document stating you are not taking away a job from an already legal worker).

The CIC is saying we need a job offer or a 'Certificate of Qualification' for Adam to prove he can do electrics in Ontario. The Ontario College of Trades can only issue this certificate after we land and he sits an exam. They can send us a temporary one, which lasts for 90 days, but this is designed to allow him to work when we land until he can sit the exam.

The CIC have not said whether a temporary certificate, or a letter from the Ontario College of Trades saying his qualifications and experience are fine and he is eligible to sit the exam on arrival, is enough. We are stuck!

The only 2 options available appear to be:

1- find a job, hoping that an employer will wait for us to land (6 months +!)
2. Adam flies out soon, sits the exam, and waits for the 3 weeks back here to find out the result, then we apply again.
