My fiancee is a UK citizen who recently arrived in Canada (Dec. 2009).
He entered Canada with a holiday visa (6 months) however, as we plan on marrying before June of this year we would like him to be able to apply for work here. He is a skilled labourer in the UK - fork lift driver, bricklayer and welder.
Can he apply for a work permit from within Canada?
Where and how do we apply? What are the steps that we need to take? His holiday visa expires in May of this year.

If it matters, I am born in Canada and have lived here all my life.
I am employed (same company for the past 5 years) in an administrative managerial position.
At present, I am a single mom with two daughters.
Please if anyone can help... it would be much appreciated as I havnt a clue even where to start.

He can apply for a work permit from within Canada but he does not qualify for an open work permit just because you are planning on getting married. He would have to take the same route as other foreign workers, first look for a job, then get the employer to apply for a labour market opinion at Service Canada and if they get it, could take a few weeks, then he can take the LMO to the border along with his $150, cross to the US, turn around and get his work permit processed immediately on the Canadian side.
