I'm a uk citizen but im currently working in Thailand. However, a friend of mine who runs a tree planting firm has offered me a job. So i have a definite job placement, but whats going to be the easiest option route for me to take for visa/work permit wise? The job will only last between 6 - 8 weeks in Northern BC. Sorry for the broad nature of the question but i struggled to get answers from the embassy website. Would really appreciate any advice, thank you :)

Your employer would need a positive LMO to hire you and they would have to qualify under seasonal agriculture. You might want to check into the IEC program on the London High Commission website to see if you qualify. However, the slots may be full.

Note for the IEC, must be resident in the UK,

Residency Requirements

What does “3 years habitual residency requirement” mean?

This means that that a candidate’s habitual residence (i.e. physically residing/living) must be in the UK for a period of at least three years full-time prior to applying to the IEC. An exception is made if the candidate is temporarily in a foreign country for studies or short-term work.

I am in Canada/in another country. Can I participate to the IEC initiative without coming back to the UK?

If your usual place of residence is the UK and you are temporarily out of the country, you may apply from the country in which you are. You can download the participation kit on our website and send your completed application by mail to the address indicated in the instructions. If your application is accepted, you will receive your Letter of Introduction by email. If you are already in Canada, you will have to leave the country with this letter and present it to an Immigration Officer at a Canadian port of entry (i.e. a border crossing) in order to obtain your work permit.
