UK citizen being sponsered by PR status spouse

I am a UK citizen. My husband is a PR of Canada, and has been a resident of canada since 2005. we got married back in Aug 09 in Toronto and have recently receieved our marriage certificate. my husband contacted another immigaration company and they quoted 12-14 months processing time (when applying within canada )for me to become a PR and 6-8 months if applying outside of canada. They also mentioned that only once i have become a PR only then I would get a medical card and a SIM card (which will legally allow me to work). i am currently in the UK here for vacation, and am trying to research what the best option for me in terms of applying for PR. Being a UK citizen, im just not convinced of the 12-14 months that has been quoted.

The information you were given was accurate.

Outland applications through London can take 6-8 months but some only take a few months. Timelines for the past year are here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/international/05-fc-spouses.asp#europe

Inland applications definitely take longer. I'd say 12-18 months is the norm though it's not unheard of for them to take 2+ years to finalize

My friend applied inland in May, Her hub recieved letter already for passsport. She had just moved back to Canada and barely had a job and living with family..so not ideal...and it took them 8 months ish
So not always as long as predicted

Inland is a lottery. You could possibly have first stage approval and work permit in as little as 5 months and although getting PR in 8 months is the fastest I have heard yet, I had heard before about somebody getting it in 9-10. Many cases take 12-18. If an interview is required, then it really gets interesting because then you will not get the first stage approval or work permit or health care and you have to wait for the local CIC office to have time for your interview. This can take a year or longer. One couple was told by their local office that their file would be on the shelf for 3 years because of their case load. One case I heard about, people applying inland were up to 4.5 years total and still waiting.

However, those are exceptions, both the people who are really fast and the ones who are going through really slowly. Realistically you can except around 12 months with inland. Depending on if you want to travel while it's being processed and how fast the outland is going in your country of nationality, you have to pick which is better for you.

I don't know if you are still reading this thread and/or considering Inland/Outland - I wish I'd known almost 3 years ago what I know now!! Please don't go inland - I hear the lucky few get their applications processed in less than 18 months - my whole process started well over 2 years ago, the end still doesn't appear to be anywhere in sight - I am just having to another work permit, more expense, soon second medical (they are valid for two years) more expense. There is no reason for my application to have been delayed, the processing office haven't even got a backlog - but inland spousal applications seem to be viewed as very low priority - particularly the straight forward no complications cases from UK marrying Canadian spouse (sorry that was attempted sarcasm!). Also using a lawyer doesn't help either (I used one and $4,000 later still no nearer)

Outland is much more straight forward, almost always takes less than 8 months and you have right of appeal if anything should go wrong - you don't even have that with an inland application!

I don't think you read or understood my original post! I don't keep spending money on a lawyer - the cost of the lawyer to do the application was $4,000 - thats what it costs its not a continual spend! The no win situation? Whether you use a lawyer or not one day your approval will come through - my application is approved its just a case of waiting for the landing date but that is down to immigration - I was advising the original poster not to use a lawyer and not to do an inland application as it TAKES TOO LONG - not complaining about a no win situation that wasn't working out - hope this clarifies.
