Hi all,

I am from the UK, living and working in Canada on the experience Canada program. My girlfriend and i have a child together who is a Canadian citizen. I am doing my sponsorship forms now. I have about a year and a half left on my current Visa. Which is the best way for me to go. Inbound or Outbound. We have been living together in our house for nearly two years now in Canada. we are declared common-law for tax purposes. We are a no brainer really in terms of assesment. I have done my medical here in Canada also. Which is the best way to go. I remember reading that if i sent my application to Ottawa the easy application like this are processed faster. Is this true?

Thanks

In November 2014 CIC removed the question which asked you to specify the visa office which serves your country of birth or the country you have been legally in for at least a year. Now, CIC send applications wherever they want, within reason. In late 2014 to early 2015 British applicants had their files processed in Mississauga, Ottawa and London but now the trend seems to be mainly London and some in Ottawa, none in Mississauga anymore.

Just fill in the forms, provide all the documentation required and apply. The average processing time is about a year so if you apply within the next 3-6 months you should have it before your current visa expires.

Remember that your medical is only valid for a year so if you have already had it done then that clock is ticking. Worst case is CIC asks you to redo it which they sometimes do after it expires.

Check out the spreadsheet link in my signature, myself and another member maintain it, it is used to track applications going through London.

Edit: I recommend applying outland. If you apply inland you can gain a work permit in about 4 months, but you have one anyway so no point. The applications are different so make sure you are using the right one.

Good luck!
