Hi all,

I'm an international student who has just graduated from the UK with an MEng (integrated masters). I wasn't successful in securing graduate employment in the UK so I have to leave to my home country Sri Lanka when my visa expires in October.

Although I say home country, I grew up in the Gulf, so living in SL will be new to me. The big shortcoming is that my career prospects and earning potential will be limited there. I've started looking into Canada and it's become very appealing to me with its relative ease of Express Entry.

I believe I have enough points to get an ITA once I redo the IELTS (had to do it 5 years ago for the UK visa, got the equivalent of CLB level 10).

I also did a 52-week industrial placement year between the 3rd and 4th (MEng) years of my course, so my degree is MEng Mechanical Engineering with Industrial Experience. This was a paid, full-time 37.5 h/wk job, and I hope it will qualify as 1 year work exp under NOC 2132 Mechanical Engineer.

I understand if I was applying through the Canadian Experience Class, this wouldn't be valid, but since my experience was outside Canada it would count even though it was during my studies.

I would just like to confirm this, has anyone else gone through something similar? Also, since this was an internship, will it be difficult to put this forward as the same as NOC Skill Level A Mechanical Engineer work?

Thanks!
