When to extend your study permitTHIS WAS OUTSIDE CANADA
When did your passport expire? Your study permit is usually issued up till the validity of your passport. So not sure how your passport expired but your SP was still valid?I am a Full Time student as of now I attached my enrolment letter and grades. My passport had expired same time as the permit. I renewed my passport but the permit was valid. I still asked my immigration officers at school and they said the permit is valid until March. Then I reapplied with my new passport.
The IRCC is reasonable (mostlyI really appreciate your help. The date on my permit is March 14th (I am talking about the document, which is a separate paper). I know the situation is confusing but in any case after renewing my passport I would have to reapply using the permit. It doesn't make sense to me. I have already sent a webform. Is there a chance that my application is reconsidered? Ever heard of such a case
Not sure where you study but on most school websites, it is very clear that you can’t extend outside Canada as you must have a Canadian address where you applied for the extension from. A study permit allows you to study IN Canada. You can study outside Canada without having a study permit but you don’t get credit for a Canadian education. Here is UBC for example. You will have to apply for a new study permit.I am not sure if that makes any sense. I had an option while applying that I was applying outside Canada. Also, I have attended sessions on how to apply outside of Canada. This is the first time I am hearing this. Also, if this was the scenario maybe they should've mentioned it on the reason for refusal but that is not the case. Please send me a valid cic link for this. Thanks
@Naturgrl is right, unfortunately.I am not sure if that makes any sense. I had an option while applying that I was applying outside Canada. Correct. A study permit allows you to study IN Canada. You don’t need a valid study permit because you are no longer in Canada. If you want to come back to Canada, you need a new study permit and TRV.@Naturgrl is right, unfortunately.
"You should apply to extend your study permit if you plan to travel outside Canada and your permit will expire while you’re travelling."

Alright so I just rechecked and when you go through the eligibility I said I had a study permit and it said I am eligible for a study permit so now I am confused. Technically I only filled in the eligibility form correctly and it bought me to this page also all the forms I filled are from outside Canada. Sorry for the confusion. Any help guys?Correct. A study permit allows you to study IN Canada. You don’t need a valid study permit because you are no longer in Canada. If you want to come back to Canada, you need a new study permit and TRV.
Bottom line here is that you should have applied for an extension INSIDE Canada. You didn't do that and now your SP has expired. You will need to re-apply for a new SP.What would you like to do in Canada?

You should never have applied for an extension in the first place if you were not in Canada. In the application, it asks the questions but makes the assumption that you are applying for an extension in Canada since that is the requirement.
It actually never assumes that. All of the forms are from 'outside Canada'. I appreciate your help but I would not be able to go back if I didn't apply for it. I had to come to my country urgently due to the COVID situation and have to return during the summer. Anyways thank you for your help. You should never have applied for an extension in the first place if you were not in Canada. I am sorry. You can try for a reconsideration but ultimately, you will need a new study permit. I assume your TRV also expired too.It actually never assumes that.
