Hi,

My friend in Uganda is currently finishing up their studies in medicine, after which he will be a certified doctor, with surgery as a focus, in Uganda. I wanted to inquire now rather than later to see what process it would take to bring him to Canada, and if he would be able to transfer any credentials to this country.

His education is through two Ugandan universities, he has not traveled outside of Uganda for studies.

Any barebones advice would be amazing.

He will have to go through a re-certification process in order to work as a doctor in Canada. Typically it takes several years for people to complete the re-certification process once they arrive in Canada. You can read more about the process here:

In terms of immigrating to Canada, your friend will have to research Canada's immigration process to see if he qualifies to apply. He'll need at least one year of full time and skilled work experience to apply.
