What is a UCI?

UCI stands for “unique client identifier.” It is also known as a client identification number (client ID). It appears on official documents you get from Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC). It has four numbers, a hyphen and four more numbers. (Example: 0000-0000).

If you are applying to CIC for the first time, you will not yet have a UCI. If so, and you are filling out a form that asks for one, write “Not Applicable” or “N/A” in the space provided.

If you are applying online and the form does not allow you to input “N/A,” leave the space blank.

As you know, it is an unique client identification number. To find this number, depends on your situation. If you are already inside Canada applying for sponsorship, you already have an UCI number. It is on your visitor record or work visa record, when you came into Canada. However if you are applying outland in your own country, then you won't have an UCI assigned and CIC will assign one to you when they start processing your application. So you leave the UCI field blank.

I had one on my expired VR and I am getting a new VR this fall when I visit my fiance before my wedding and during the pr process . Do I have the same number? I am getting my proofs together now.

what does UCI MEAN
UCI is Unique Client Identifier. You will get it when the CIC office sends you either AOR (Acknowledge or Receipt) or other official letter. Once they contact you, you might get it but it is for sure - unless they send you any official email (like AOR, application received, any document shortage information or anything else) you will not get it.

You might get your application file number and UCI together.
