I am 'naturalised Canadian citizen' going to sponsor my wife (US citizen) currently in Canada on visitor's visa. My questions are related to forms: Q1. Question 9 in "Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship agreement and Undertaking" asks for "UCI/Client ID" - what's this number? From where I will get this?
Q2. Question 8 in "Sponsor Questionnaire" asks "Have you resided in countries other than Canada?" Is this related to employment details of last five years (asked for in Question 7 of the same form) or with every residence from my birth onwards? I don't even remember all addresses where I lived before coming to Canada !! Thanking you in anticipation.

Hi there,

1) Client ID refers to the number on your immigration case provided to you at the time you applied for immigration to Canada. For eg, there are naturalised Canadians/PRs who applied as Skilled Workers, went through the whole rigmarole of immigration and then became PRs/citizens. Now you, as a PR/citizen. are in a position to sponsor your spouse. So, if you have any documents pertaining to that previous case and could retrieve your client ID number, then please provide it here, otherwise leave it blank.

In my husbands case, he was a minor when he came to Canada from India, which was almost 20 years ago and did not remember much about his previous application. In that case, we gave the exact date on which he and his family landed in Canada. His father seemed to remember most of the details, and did save a few immigration papers from the past. I believe you could do the same & ask if anyone from your family remembers.

2) It refers to the countries you have lived in (not visited) since the time you were born. Most people again do not remember much, so they give as much info as they could remember. Some people only remember street names and have provided that. Again, I suggest you ask around and see if any of your family remembers. Just give as much info as you can, the VO will understand such cases.

Hope this helps. All the best!

You can give the name of city or town of country you visited against the address. In the covering letter you can briefly mention that you cannot recall any address of the places you visited.

Hi guys,

I'm hoping you can help me because I'm confused about this UCI/Client ID thing. My family and I (parents and siblings) were sponsored by my uncle 24 years ago. We have our papers (record of landing). I'm trying to figure out which number is my UCI/Client ID. I see a 'B **** *****' on the top right and a 'W *** *** ***' on the bottom right.

I've also read that the UCI/Client ID is supposed to be 8 characters with a dash in the middle (Ex: ****-****). Under the B number on the top right, I see a blank field which is 8 characters long with a dash in the middle exactly like my example (Ex: ****-****). Is this the number I want? I've checked my father's mother's and siblings records of landing and the field is blank on all documents.

On the bottom of papers, we all have the same "CIC Ottawa File No: ****-******."

Please help and thanks in advance.

I received my CID way before I ever applied to immigrate.... 1st time I saw this number was the first time I was turned away at the border bout 8 yrs ago and most recently on the visitor record I received when I crossed into Canada April 19th of this year. could b under lots of things I actually got out old papers and looked and I have found it in listed as Client ID, Unique Client ID as well as FOOS ID on a declaration order I received in 2011. But as shamsia said you don't hafta include it just explain you came as a child once your name is in the system the # will come to them....
