Hi all,

I have been in a lengthy and rather frustrated phase ever since I have moved to Canada with my husband who is a Canadian citizen. I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certifican Board of United States. All of that for nothing though since I can not seem to figure out the right way to obtain a work permit.

Here are some stats to clarify the scenario:
I am a U.S citizen currently living in Canada (Alberta) on a implied visitor status since I have been here for more than 6 months now. I want to apply for my PR as soon as I get my extension. Meanwhile I am sick of staying at home 24/7 and want to start work. I have 1 year experience working as a pharmacy tech and an academically qualified as well. And like I said my husband is a Canadian Citizen (Not sure if that even helps!).

Can someone please tell me the proper procedure, which will earn me a work permit? Do I need to go to the port of entry? Do I need a Labor Market Opinion? ...Jut very frustrated at this point and will appreciate any sort of guidance in this matter.

Thanks in advance!

My understanding is that if my occupation falls under NAFTA then I am LMO exempt?
They do list Scientific Technician/Technologist:Possession of (a) theoretical knowledge of any of the following disciplines: agricultural sciences, astronomy, biology, chemistry, engineering, forestry, geology, geophysics, meteorology or physics; and (b) the ability to solve practical problems in any of those disciplines, or the ability to apply principles of any of those disciplines to basic or applied research

Would Pharmacy Technician fall under that category?
