What type of Visa we need to apply for in order to attend a professional training program in Canada?

You will be a business visitor. You must apply for a TRV (Temporary Residence Visa).... select 'Business' in the 'Purpose of my visit' question of the visa application form

I have gain admission to study Intensive French Language and culture in McGill university for one session.I am 23 years and currently self employed.I own a grocery shop and it is registered in my name. I have gotten the acceptance letter from the school after paying fully for my tuition and insurance. I have also fully paid for my off campus accommodation (Home Stay). My mother will be sponsoring me. I will attach my personal bank statement with about Thousand CND. I don't have a business bank statement but have my business registration and tax clearance. My mother is a trader and only pay tax to the municipal authority as her business is not registered. What are my chances of getting Visitor's Visa for my short studies?

It's not possible to guess whether you'll be approved or not.

1. CAD 1000 is quite low.... your finances must be able to pay for your airfare + any other expenses
2. You must prove that your business is actively trading
3. You must prove other strong ties to your home country

Thank you Brayanna and Regina. It is offered by a company and not educational institute. Program is unpaid and for 24 weeks. Should I still need to apply for study permit? Or business visa?

A training program for 24 weeks seems rather unusually long.


You'll have to give us more information:
1. Are you employed?

2. Will your employer in your home country pay for your visit (i.e. hotel, airfare, expenses)?

3. Will you be trained by the Canadian parent company of the company you work for outside Canada?

4. Will you be trained by a Canadian company that has sold equipment or services?

1. Are you employed? No. I am in my 3rd year bacheor's and going to do my intership.

2. Will your employer in your home country pay for your visit (i.e. hotel, airfare, expenses)?
Expenses will be paid by my sponsor.

4. Will you be trained by a Canadian company that has sold equipment or services?

Your training program is neither business training (does not require a Business TRV)..... nor a typical professional training program (study permit).

This will be perceived as working illegally on a TRV (as a visitor)

You will need both a study permit as well as a work permit for internship.... if your study program makes you eligible for it:

Thank you for the reply Bryanna. My bachelor's study is not in Canada. Only want to get training in Canada. Which is unpaid and less than 6 months. Do I need to apply for work permit only?

As your Canadian host will take care of your hotel, airfare and other expenses, this is not *unpaid* training. It is a form of remuneration. Also, 24 weeks = 6 months is quite long for a typical training program.

You will have to apply for a Work Permit

Will your brother be inviting you? And his company, in Canada, will provide training?

Or your brother (in your home country) will pay for your expenses..... and you will be trained by a Canadian company?
