Type of Visa Granted For International Pharmacy Bridging Programme for Pharmacy

Hello Everyone,

I haven't seen much of this discussed anywhere and was wondering if anyone would be willing to share experience on this. Basically I intend to come to Canada for the Bridging Programme in British Columbia which is 24 weeks (12 weeks teaching and 12.5 weeks co-op). My worry now is would I be able to get a visa for this because I am really scared of the Canadian visa officers and their thorough strictness towards issuing out visa's.

Secondly, how long would the visa last for, would I be able to write the qualifying exam and pass the Jurisprudence exam for BC and perhaps get a job?

Thirdly I intend applying for the federal skilled worker as a pharmacist however I am not registered anywhere and I only have one year experience full-time working as a Pre-registration/Intern Pharmacist in the UK. Would I be able to do this assuming I tick other requirement boxes for this scheme.

Would really appreciate if someone would take time to advice me.

It's a bit of a tricky question. If the length of the program is six months or less, then you should be able to apply for a TRV to come to Canada and study on the TRV. However you're not allowed to work. And I believe the co-op may be classified as work (it certainly will be if you're being paid).

You could apply for a study permit even if the program is just six months. However study permits have a rule stating that the length of the co-op cannot be more than 50% of the total length of the program (and it looks like in your case the co-op is longer than 50% of the length of the program).

So I'm not sure how you would go about this...

I have asked the various organizers about the program, The university of British Columbia and University of Toronto but they have said I would need to apply for a study permit and all, it is so confusing still.

I would go with what the schools have told you. Presumably they've had international students do the same as you before.

Assume that it will be difficult to get a study permit. By wanting to attend the bridging program you are essentially declaring you wish to remain in Canada. All you can do is apply and see.
