Hey gang,

so I am an American living in Canada on my visitor's visa. My wife and I filed for PR and are waiting for it to be processed.

Now, I am applying to teaching gigs in Canada. A school in Nova Scotia wants me, but they're not sure what to do in regards to getting me a work permit.

Can anyone help? What do they have to do?

Also, how long would the process of getting a work permit take in this case?

THANKS

1. The employer (school board if public) would have to apply for a Labour Market Opinion from HRSDC after advertising the position on the Job Bank for 2 weeks, and then demonstrate that there were no Canadians or PRs available/qualified for the position (good luck for school teachers) Then you could apply for a work permit at a border port. Probably 12-16 weeks for the LMO>
2. Unless you have a very unusual and rare teaching skill, it is very unlikely to be approved, as teaching is one of the hardest occupations to break into in Canada.
