Hey Everyone,

I'm graduating from University of Pittsburgh with a degree in finance and information systems. I'm looking to find a job in finance, consulting, or IT in ontario or bc. I've heard that it's easier to find a company with an LMO in more populated areas. Given my choice of field and choice of location would it be easy or difficult to find an employer that is legally allowed to hire foreign workers? (aka they can get an lmo).

Thanks!
Dan

p.s. I'm also hoping this leads to permanent residence eventually so I'm trying to get permanent work experience in Canada.

It's very difficult to find an employer willing to go through the LMO process for the fields you have indicated. This is due to the fact that there are many Canadians with the same qualifications (doesn't help that you're a recent grad) and this makes it next to impossible for an employer to prove they couldn't find a Canadian for the role. Are you American by any chance? If so, you should look into NAFTA to see if you qualify. If you do, that will make things easier since an LMO won't be required to obtain a work permit.

As for how to get a job, all you can really do it apply and hope you get lucky. Expect to send a lot of resumes and hear nothing back. But people are successful - so if this is where you want to end up, keep applying and hopefully you'll get lucky.

Good luck. Hope things work out for you.

Yes I am American. I noticed that a few of the fields I indicated were under the NAFTA list. You said that i wouldn't need an LMO if NAFTA covered these professions. Would not having to get an LMO help my chances greatly?

You have to be in Canada to apply for for jobs in yoru field which will increase the possibility. Outside of Canada and recnt graudate...make it really hard to even get companies to call you. Just a thought.
