Hello all,

I am Canadian citizen currently living abroad for 2 years. I got married in 2015 and applied right away as a sponsor for my husband to come to Canada.
We are in the beginning of process and it will take about 1-1,5 years, probably.
We are both employed in a country where we live now. Our intention is clear - we want an honest process and come to Canada legally once sponsorship and his PR approved. We waited for my divorce, we got married and only then applied for sponsorship.

My family (parents, grandmother and brother) are in Canada. I only have a chance to visit them once a year when I have my vacation.
I miss them very much. This year I would like to go there with my husband during my vacation.

He never had a Canadian Tourist visa before, because we know it's hard to get. Should we take our chances and try applying for TRV to go there for vacation to visit my parents? What's the chance he is going to get it? Any advice on improving our chances? Or I should just forget about it and go for one more vacation by myself?

Thanks in advance.

There's certainly no harm in applying - you might get lucky. To increase the chances of approval your spouse should provide as much evidence as possible showing strong ties to his home country (e.g. job, property, other assets).

Yes, but what do ties mean to CIC when we are in sponsorship process? We will end the ties anyway, once he gets his PR.
The point is that we really want everything to be clear and legal, that's why we do it step by step.
What else can we show to prove we are solid to stick to the legal plan?

Would his travel history count? He's never overstayed any visas (over 13 visas altogether for past 3 years) and he has an open 3 year visa to US.
Any other ideas?

I don't think ties are so important if you have applied for PR. My partner was denied TRV 4x before we made PR application. As soon as we received confirmation that PR received, we applied again and wrote in the letter specifically that we acknowledged my partners ties were weak and that the PR made our intentions clear.

if you only intend to go for vacation even better.

It costs a $100 to apply on-line, very simple and efficient. Just write an honest letter regarding the purpose of your visit. Use the UCI number received with your PR acknowledgement and your files are all linked.

incidentally, my partner (we are M-F conjugal app, very long and difficult, filed last August) stayed 5 months in Canada. We just returned for vacation and applied again for another TRV for her and explained everything in the letter. This time it took a week for the approval (last time only a day) but she will be able to return to stay with me while we await PR.

I read somewhere in the VO assessing manual about "dual intent". i think you will have no problem with the TRV.
