TRV vs TRP, re-entry, open work permits

I recently received my second Temporary Visitor visa. I'm originally from the US, and came here back in June 2014. Once my status in Canada was nearing expiration I applied for a year's extension, which was granted. This past summer I did the same thing, and thankfully I had no problem with it being accepted again. My wife (Canadian) and I will be filing for Outland Sponsorship this year prior to my visa's expiration.

My questions concern a few things:

1. What are the chances of being granted a third Temporary Visitor visa? I haven't left Canada this entire time and while I don't think there should be any reason to prevent my staying here—I don't want to assume this as I am uncertain of Canada's protocols.
2. I read via the CIC website concerning applying for an open work permit that you can apply within Canada so long as you have a Temporary Resident permit valid for 6 months or more. From my research I feel the only difference between the TRP and TRV is that a TRP is primarily granted to those claiming refugee status. In this case, is there no possible way for me to apply for an open work permit while in Canada since my visa will be valid for more than 6 months? Considering my intentions for wanting to remain in Canada and my sincerity with wanting to obtain permanent resident status, I'd very much like the ability to work and participate in the city I've lived in for over a year 1/2.
3. Finally, my wife and I were invited to attend a wedding in the Bahamas this May. My TRV states at the bottom that it does not guarantee my re-entry. However, if I travel with my wife and we bring our marriage licence does this help with my being able to be readmitted back into Canada?

Any advice concerning these topics would be beneficial. Thank you.

1. Submit your outland application as soon as possible using the outland process and ideally you'll have sponsor approval before you submit the visitor visa extension again. If you include proof of the outland application (especially if you have sponsor approval already) I can't imagine you'll be denied an extension from within Canada.
2. You don't qualify for a TRP. TRPs are special permits that are granted to people who are otherwise inadmissible to Canada (typically due to a crime).
3. It might or it might not help you. Again, whether you are allowed back in is up to the officer you encounter at the border. Once you leave you'll be re-entering as a brand new visitor. Bring proof you have submitted the outland sponsorship application.

To answer your question about working, if you want to work before you have PR you will first have to find an employer in Canada who is willing to offer you a full time job. If that job falls under NAFTA - you can then obtain a work permit. If it doesn't, then your employer will also need to obtain something called an approved LMIA (permission to hire you) before you can obtain a work permit.
